On the Ausoniusweg hiking trail from Bingen to Trier
As early as 368 AD, Ausonius, a scholar from the imperial court of Valentinian in Rome, travelled through the Hunsrück region en route to the imperial city of Trier. Experience the Hunsrück on this historical Roman road with a hike through flowering meadows and shady forests. The Ausoniusweg trail is a straight Roman road, so not always gentle and comfortable, that transports hikers back to Roman times. En route there are ten information panels which provide interesting and illustrative notes on Roman times and the life of Ausonius.
